Pinarayi Vijayan Requests Clarification from Kerala Government on Shift in Position Regarding PM SHRI Initiative

In response to the Chief Ministers assertion regarding the receipt of funds from the Prime Minister’s Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) initiative, the opposition has rejected this claim. They highlighted that the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) administration signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Union government when the latter withheld funds from the Samagra Shiksha Scheme, which had significant implications for the state’s education sector.

The opposition also clarified that executing the MoU does not obligate the current government to implement the PM SHRI scheme. Implementation decisions would require a formal policy decision from the United Democratic Front (UDF) government.

The PM SHRI initiative, which aims to enhance the quality of education in schools across India, involves various financial and infrastructural support measures. The discussions around the educational funding highlight ongoing tensions between state and central governments regarding resource allocation and educational policy implementation.
