PM Modi Visits Seychelles, Highlights Conservation and Cultural Ties
During a recent visit to Seychelles, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a series of diplomatic and cultural activities, celebrating the deepening ties between India and the island nation. Notably, Modi met with the Seychelles Giant Tortoise, known as the worlds oldest living land animal, emphasizing conservation efforts.
As part of the visit, he attended the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Seychelles, where he was the Guest of Honour. This event marked 50 years of Seychelles independence and sovereignty, providing an opportunity to reflect on the long-lasting relationship between the two nations.
In addition, Prime Minister Modi participated in a conservation initiative by planting Coco de Mer trees in a local garden. The Coco de Mer, endemic to Seychelles, is known for its unique seed and plays a crucial role in the islands ecosystem.
PM Modis visit also saw a significant reception from the Indian diaspora in Seychelles, which is noted to have grown from just five individuals at the time of Seychelles independence to approximately 5% of the population today. This demographic shift underscores the strong cultural and historical links that bind the two countries.
The visit highlights Indias commitment to fostering environmental conservation, enhancing bilateral cooperation, and celebrating shared heritage with Seychelles.
