PM Modi Highlights Impact of PM SVANidhi Program on Street Vendors Lives
The Prime Minister Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme was initiated in response to the economic challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. This government initiative aims to offer affordable working capital loans specifically designed for street vendors, a group significantly impacted by the pandemic and related lockdown measures.
Under the PM SVANidhi scheme, street vendors can avail loans of up to INR 10,000, with a repayment period of one year. The program not only seeks to provide financial assistance but also encourages the integration of street vendors into the formal economy. Additionally, vendors who repay their loans promptly may be eligible for further loans, thus fostering a cycle of financial stability and entrepreneurship.
As of October 2023, the scheme has seen widespread adoption across various states in India, with thousands of vendors benefiting from the financial support. The initiative is part of a broader set of measures aimed at revitalizing small businesses and promoting economic recovery in the post-pandemic landscape.
