Polavaram Hydro Project Advances with Implementation of New Turbine Technology
A new 960 MW power project is being developed with the goal of generating 23 million units (MU) of electricity per day at peak capacity. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce the cost of power purchases and enhance the stability of the state’s electricity grid.
The project aims to bring into operation its initial units by July 2027, with full commissioning planned for January 2028. Once operational, the power generated will not only help meet rising energy demands but also contribute to the state’s efforts in transitioning to more sustainable energy sources.
This development aligns with broader efforts to improve energy infrastructure and decrease dependency on imported power, ultimately leading to more reliable and cost-effective electricity for consumers and businesses in the region. Further details regarding the technology to be employed and the sourcing of project financing are anticipated to be released as the project progresses.
