Potential Negative Impact of Amendment Resistance on Southern States
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has put forth a proposal to increase the number of seats in the Lok Sabha by 50%. According to this plan, one-third of the expanded total will be allocated specifically for women, both at the national level and within individual states.
For example, in Kerala, which currently holds 20 Lok Sabha seats, the total would be raised to 30 seats under this proposal. Out of these 30 seats, 10 would be reserved exclusively for women candidates.
This initiative is part of a broader push to enhance gender representation in Indian politics, aligning with ongoing discussions about womens empowerment and inclusivity in governance. The proposal is expected to stimulate debates around electoral reforms and the structural changes needed to facilitate such an increase in female representation.
