Prospects of Indian-US Energy Relations: Focus on LPG and LNG Over Russian Crude Amid Trumps Advocacy

Recent geopolitical developments have significantly influenced Indias energy supplies, particularly in the context of crude oil, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and liquefied natural gas (LNG). India remains heavily reliant on international markets to fulfill its energy requirements, with a substantial portion of its imports transiting through key maritime routes.

The ongoing tensions arising from the US-Iran conflict have led to concerns about the stability of supply routes, notably the Strait of Hormuz, which is a crucial passage for a large percentage of the worlds oil shipments. The Strait accounts for approximately 20% of the global oil trade, making it a pivotal area for energy security.

In response to these supply disruptions, India has been actively exploring alternative energy sources and diversifying its supply chains to mitigate the impacts of geopolitical tensions. This includes increasing imports from countries like Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and the United States, as well as investing in renewable energy initiatives to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels in the long term.

As a major emerging economy, Indias energy strategy remains a critical component of its economic planning, underlining the importance of stable and secure energy supplies for its growth and development objectives.
