Protests and Shutdown in Ladakh Advocating for Statehood and Sixth Schedule Recognition
On March 16, residents of Leh and Kargil participated in demonstrations in response to a shutdown called by the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) and the Leh Apex Body (LAB). In Leh town, hundreds marched from Singay Namgyal Chowk to the Polo Ground. Simultaneously, a rally in Kargil attracted a large crowd of local participants. This mobilization occurred following the release of activist Sonam Wangchuk from jail.
