Rail Reorganization Results in Streamlined SCR and Strengthened Kazipet Division

The South Central Railway (SCR) zone is set to undergo a significant restructuring, which will reduce its number of divisions from six to three. This change follows the establishment of the newly formed South Coast Railway (SCoR) zone, which will be headquartered in Visakhapatnam.

The Indian government has approved the formation of the SCoR zone as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance rail services and operational efficiency in the southern region of the country. The creation of the SCoR is expected to improve connectivity in the eastern and southern states, particularly benefiting Andhra Pradesh and parts of Odisha and Tamil Nadu.

Currently, SCR operates with six divisions, including Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntakal, Nanded, and Nagpur. Following the restructuring, SCR will focus on its remaining three divisions, which have yet to be specified, while SCoR will take over the responsibilities of the formerly SCR-administered regions.

This change is anticipated to streamline operations and management within the Indian Railways and is in line with the broader strategy of decentralizing railway governance to promote regional development. Rail authorities and stakeholders are expected to closely monitor the transition to ensure a smooth handover of services and infrastructure.
