Railway Tracks Severely Damaged by Flooding in Assam

Severe Flooding in Assam Disrupts Railway Services and Infrastructure

Recent heavy rainfall in Assam has led to significant flooding, resulting in the washing away and severe damage to railway tracks in the region. This has severely disrupted train services, particularly affecting connectivity in the Lumding-Badarpur hill section where track settlement has been reported.

The floods have persisted for over a week, impacting rail connectivity not only in Assam but also to neighboring states, including Tripura, Mizoram, and Manipur. Current restoration efforts are being undertaken on a war footing by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) to mitigate the effects of the disruption.

As part of the ongoing response, two train services have been canceled and eight others rescheduled to accommodate the new restoration work underway in Harangajao. In addition, local initiatives have been established, with groups like the Bharat Scouts & Guides distributing flood relief materials to assist affected communities in Assam.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation as restoration efforts progress, while railway services remain affected due to weather-related damages. Community and governmental responses are evolving as they address the needs of those impacted by this severe weather event.
