Rajnath Singh Scheduled to Visit Germany on April 21; Submarine Deal Expected to Be Discussed
German defense company Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) is reportedly on the verge of finalizing a significant contract valued at over $8 billion for the construction of submarines. This deal involves a partnership with Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), a state-owned company based in Mumbai, India. Under this agreement, submarines will primarily be built in India, bolstering the nations indigenous defense capabilities and promoting local shipbuilding expertise.
The potential contract aligns with Indias strategic initiative to enhance its naval capabilities amidst growing regional maritime security concerns. The collaboration is also part of Indias broader “Make in India” initiative, aimed at increasing local production and fostering technological partnerships. The exact details of the types and specifications of the submarines have not yet been disclosed, but they are expected to significantly bolster the Indian Navys operational capacity.
