Residents of Gurugram Gated Communities Restrict Access for Enumerators; FIRs Suggested for Those Hindering Census Activities
Under the Census Act of 1948, individuals found guilty of neglecting or obstructing official census duties may face penalties of up to three years in prison. In response to this legal framework, the Census officer in Gurugram has issued a communication to Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) urging cooperation with census workers. The officer emphasized that census officials will carry identification and authorization letters to ensure their legitimacy while conducting the census in the area.
The Census Act of 1948 establishes the framework for conducting national population assessments in India, aiming to ensure accurate data collection that informs policy-making and resource allocation. The upcoming census is particularly important as it provides a comprehensive demographic picture, essential for planning various government services and infrastructure development.
Authorities have started outreach efforts to educate the public about the significance of the Census and to encourage full participation, highlighting that the information collected will be confidential and used solely for statistical purposes. Residents are encouraged to be vigilant and allow only authorized personnel to conduct census activities in their communities.
