Security Measures in Place in Srinagar Ahead of 1931 Revolt Anniversary

Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir – In anticipation of the anniversary of the 1931 revolt, local authorities have implemented heightened security measures throughout the city, which includes the establishment of barricades and restricted access to specific areas.

Officials have announced that certain parts of Srinagar will be under curbs today as a precautionary measure. This decision comes in response to the commemorative events expected to take place, which historically attract large gatherings. The revolt anniversary holds significant historical importance, marking the uprising against the autocratic rule of the Dogra dynasty and contributing to the broader struggle for self-determination in the region.

In a notable incident, a Jammu and Kashmir Minister attempted to visit the Martyrs Graveyard in a burqa to honor the memory of those who fell during the revolt; however, security personnel restricted access due to heightened measures in the area. This included heavy security at the Naqshband Sahib graveyard, where public access was notably curtailed.

Additionally, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader has called for the recognition of July 13 as “Black Day” to highlight the tragedy of the events that unfolded that day in 1931.
