Rupee Appreciates 47 Paise Due to Record FCNR Inflows Boosting Forex Liquidity
Rupee Experiences Fluctuations Amid Significant Foreign Currency Non-Resident Deposits
The Indian rupee demonstrated increased volatility against the U.S. dollar in recent trading sessions, primarily influenced by substantial inflows into Foreign Currency Non-Resident (FCNR) accounts. Notably, the rupee strengthened by 47 paise, reaching a value of 94.26 against the dollar in early trade, following the announcement of record FCNR inflows estimated at approximately $136 billion. This influx has notably improved forex liquidity in the market, aiding the rupee’s performance.
Further trading data indicated continued strength, with the rupee opening at 94.30 per dollar—67 paise higher than previous levels—indicative of sustained investor confidence bolstered by the Reserve Bank of Indias (RBI) measures to stimulate foreign investments.
Despite these recent gains, the rupee ended the trading day slightly lower at 94.97 against the dollar. Analysts attribute this downward shift to profit-taking by market participants following the recent highs.
The robust demand for FCNR deposits is seen as a positive sign for India’s foreign exchange reserves, contributing to overall economic stability. As of the latest reports, the RBI has implemented various measures aimed at enhancing market liquidity, which appears to be yielding results.
Investors will be closely monitoring future trends in forex markets as economic indicators continue to evolve, especially in light of global financial conditions and domestic monetary policy adjustments.
