Valmiki Jayanti 2026: School Closures and State-Wise Holiday List

As Valmiki Jayanti approaches, many students and parents are wondering whether schools will be closed on this significant occasion. Valmiki Jayanti, which celebrates the birth of the revered sage Valmiki, is recognized as a public holiday in various states across India.

For 2026, the date of Valmiki Jayanti falls on October 26. It is essential for families to check their local school calendars, as holiday policies can vary significantly from one state to another. States such as Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh typically observe this holiday, leading to school closures. Conversely, in other regions, schools may remain open, or alternative arrangements may be made.

Parents are encouraged to confirm with their respective schools or the education department to receive the most accurate information about holiday schedules. In addition to Valmiki Jayanti, schools may also have other holidays planned in October, such as Diwali, which can further impact the academic calendar.

For those interested in celebrating Valmiki Jayanti, local cultural events, rituals, and gatherings often take place, providing a great opportunity to engage with the community and reflect on the teachings of Valmiki, who is celebrated for composing the “Ramayana,” one of the epic texts of Indian literature.

As the date nears, keeping an eye on official announcements will ensure that parents and students are well-prepared for any changes in school schedules or local festivities.
