Schools in UP Closed Until August 12 Due to Traffic Restrictions from Kanwar Yatra

Schools, colleges, and universities in several districts of western Uttar Pradesh, including Ghaziabad, Meerut, Baghpat, and Muzaffarnagar, have been temporarily closed until August 12 due to the ongoing Kanwar Yatra. Local authorities made the decision to close educational institutions in light of the significant influx of pilgrims, which has resulted in severe traffic congestion and raised concerns about student safety. However, scheduled examinations will proceed as planned, ensuring that students can complete their assessments despite the disruptions.

The Kanwar Yatra, a major pilgrimage undertaken by devotees of Lord Shiva, involves the collection of sacred water from the Ganges River and its subsequent offering at various temples. The yatra typically sees hundreds of thousands of devotees traveling on foot, which can lead to considerable traffic disruptions and logistical challenges in affected areas. Local administrations are working to manage the situation, with traffic advisories in place and alternative routes suggested for commuters.
