Shivakumar Requests 50% Drought Relief from Central Government

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Requests Drought Relief from Central Government

Karnatakas Deputy Chief Minister, D.K. Shivakumar, has formally requested that the central government provide a drought relief package amounting to 50% of the estimated losses incurred by farmers due to insufficient rainfall this year. The call for assistance comes as numerous regions within the state are experiencing severe drought conditions, which have adversely affected agricultural production and local economies.

In a statement, Shivakumar emphasized the urgency of the situation, highlighting that many farmers are struggling to cope with the detrimental impacts of the prolonged dry spell. He noted that the state government has already taken steps to assess the damage and provide immediate relief to affected farmers, but additional support from the central government is necessary to mitigate the crisis further.

Karnataka, known for its agricultural output, has faced challenges in recent years due to fluctuating weather patterns and climatic changes. The state, particularly dependent on monsoon rains, has seen a significant drop in precipitation, making it crucial for all levels of government to engage in coordinated efforts to aid farmers during this difficult period.

The Deputy Chief Ministers appeal aligns with ongoing discussions about enhancing support for agricultural sectors impacted by adverse weather conditions across India, as the country grapples with climate-related challenges.
