Skyroot Aerospace Prepares for India’s First Private Orbital Rocket Launch
Skyroot Aerospace, a private Indian startup, is set to launch its inaugural orbital-class rocket, Vikram-1, with a launch window scheduled between July 12 and August 4, 2024. This launch represents a significant milestone for Indias burgeoning aerospace sector, as it aims to join the ranks of private companies capable of delivering payloads into orbit.
Vikram-1 is part of Skyroots Vikram series, named after Indian space pioneer Vikram Sarabhai. The rocket is designed to carry small satellites and is expected to help expand access to space for various commercial applications including telecommunications, earth observation, and scientific research.
Founded in 2018 by former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) engineers, Skyroot Aerospace has quickly garnered attention in the space technology community. The company has already achieved notable milestones, such as successful test firings of various rocket components, and has received significant investments to further advance its technological capabilities.
The launch of Vikram-1 not only highlights the potential of private players in Indias space landscape but also underscores the governments increasing support for private sector participation in space exploration through initiatives like the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe).
As the countdown begins for the Vikram-1 launch, industry experts are keenly observing how this event might influence Indias position in the global space industry and the future of commercial satellite launches.
