State Government Proposes Minimum Support Price for Totapuri Mangoes, Awaits Central Approval

Farmers in the region are advocating for an increase in the procurement price for the Totapuri variety of mango. Currently, the government offers between ₹2,000 and ₹3,000 per tonne, but farmers are requesting a raise to between ₹8,000 and ₹10,000 per tonne. They assert that the current pricing fails to cover their production costs, leading to significant financial losses.

The Totapuri mango is a popular variety known for its distinct flavor and versatile use in both culinary and juice production. Harvesting typically occurs from late spring to early summer, and it plays a crucial role in the local economy by providing income for many farmers.

In recent years, the rising costs of fertilizers, labor, and transportation have compounded the challenges faced by farmers. This demand for a higher price aligns with ongoing discussions about sustainable agricultural practices and fair compensation for farmers’ labor. Stakeholders, including agricultural representatives and local government officials, are being urged to engage in dialogue to explore potential solutions for fair pricing and support for the mango farming community.
