Study by HelpAge India Identifies Increased Risks for Elderly Due to Climate Change and Social Isolation

A recent survey has revealed that 78% of respondents have faced at least one climate-related hazard within the past three years. The data indicates that heatwaves were the most prevalent, affecting 45% of participants, followed by flooding at 27%, and drought conditions impacting 20% of those surveyed.

These findings highlight the growing impact of climate change on communities, as extreme weather events become increasingly frequent and severe. Heatwaves can lead to health issues such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke, while floods can result in significant property damage and displacement. Droughts, on the other hand, affect water supply and agricultural productivity, posing serious risks to food security.

The survey aims to provide insight into public awareness and the real-life consequences of climate change, as well as to inform policymakers and stakeholders about the pressing need for climate resilience initiatives.
