Sugar output projected to reach early 13 lakh tonnes in the 2026-27 market year, according to ISMA.

According to the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA), sugar production in India has reached approximately 1.3 million tonnes in the current market year of 2026-27. This surge in output marks a significant increase and reflects the robust growth in the sugar industry.

The ISMA has indicated that this production level is a notable achievement for the industry, which is often impacted by various factors such as weather conditions, sugarcane yield, and market demand. The association is optimistic that the sector will continue to flourish, contributing positively to both the economy and farmers incomes.

This years output comes at a time when global markets are observing changing trends in sugar prices and consumption patterns. As India stands as one of the largest producers and consumers of sugar, its production levels can influence global sugar market dynamics.

Furthermore, the increase in sugar output may enhance the countrys export potential. India has been exploring international markets to boost its sugar exports, which could provide additional revenue streams for the industry while aiding farmers financially.

The ISMAs report emphasizes the commitment of sugar mills to improve efficiency and productivity, ensuring the sector remains competitive both domestically and globally. The industrys growth continues to play a crucial role in rural employment and economic sustainability in sugarcane-producing regions.
