Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Announces New Gold Ring Scheme for Newborns

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Introduces Newborn Gold Ring Scheme

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has unveiled a new initiative aimed at promoting the welfare of newborns in the state. The “Newborn Gold Ring Scheme” is designed to provide financial support to families of newborns by gifting them a gold ring as a social security measure.

Under this scheme, eligible families will receive a gold ring weighing approximately 2 grams, which can serve as both a financial asset and a token of affection for the newborn. This initiative is part of the state governments broader efforts to support families in economically disadvantaged situations and to encourage the birth of girl children.

To qualify for the scheme, families must meet certain eligibility criteria, which include proof of residency in Tamil Nadu and income limits that vary based on family size. Interested families can apply for the scheme through local government offices and health care institutions where childbirth is registered.

The initiative is expected to cost the state government an estimated ₹100 crores annually, and it aims to reach thousands of families across the state. By promoting financial inclusion from an early stage, the government hopes to improve the social standing and economic security of families within the community.

This scheme reflects a growing trend among state governments in India to provide incentives for child welfare, particularly in areas with significant gender disparities and financial challenges. Further details on application processes, additional benefits, and long-term objectives of the scheme will be shared in the coming weeks as the program rolls out.
