Three Bills Proposed to Amend Womens Quota Law and Establish Delimitation Panel in Lok Sabha
Congress leader K. C. Venugopal has raised questions regarding the proposed modifications to the women’s reservation law, which were not included during its initial passage by Parliament. He emphasized the need for transparency and clarity around the legislative process, suggesting that the omission of these changes raises concerns about inclusivity and representation.
The womens reservation bill, which aims to secure 33% of parliamentary and state legislative assembly seats for women, was first approved by Parliament in March 2021. As of October 2023, discussions surrounding modifications to the law have gained traction, reflecting ongoing debates about gender equality in political representation. Venugopals remarks highlight a critical examination of how such laws are formulated and the necessity of ensuring that all voices, especially from marginalized groups, are considered in legislative processes.
