TN Government Releases Guidelines on Preferential Reservation for Scheduled Caste (A) Candidates

The Government of Tamil Nadu has enacted the Arunthathiyars Act, which allocates a preferential reservation of 16% for the Arunthathiyar community within the existing 18% reservation for Scheduled Castes (SC) in admissions to educational institutions and job placements in government positions.

This legislation aims to address the socio-economic disadvantages faced by the Arunthathiyar community, which is recognized as a marginalized group within the broader SC classification. The Act is part of the states ongoing efforts to ensure equitable access to education and employment opportunities, fostering social inclusion and uplifting historically underrepresented communities.

The preferential reservation is designed to enable better representation of the Arunthathiyars in various sectors. It is anticipated that this move will enhance educational prospects and job opportunities for individuals from this community, helping to promote their overall development and integration into the state’s social fabric.

The implementation of the Act follows a period of advocacy from various community leaders and organizations who have been calling for targeted measures aimed at addressing long-standing disparities. Stakeholders are urged to monitor the outcomes of this initiative to ensure that its goals are met effectively.
