TNPCB to Monitor Diwali Noise Levels Across Chennai Using 60 Stations

The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) has announced plans to monitor noise levels during the upcoming Diwali festivities in Chennai. To effectively manage noise pollution, the board will utilize a network of 60 monitoring stations strategically placed across the city.

This initiative aims to ensure compliance with the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, which set limits on permissible sound levels during public celebrations. In previous years, industrial and residential areas have reported elevated noise levels during Diwali, prompting the TNPCB to take proactive measures.

The monitoring stations will provide real-time data on noise levels, allowing authorities to identify areas where excess noise occurs and take appropriate action. TNPCB officials have stated that they will also be conducting awareness campaigns to educate the public about the importance of responsible celebrations.

In addition, the board encourages citizens to report instances of excessive noise through their helpline, emphasizing community participation in mitigating noise pollution during the festive season.
