Trump Calls on New Intelligence Chief to Dismiss Certain Staff Members

Bill Pulte, a supporter of former President Donald Trump and currently serving as the head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, was appointed as the Acting Director of National Intelligence on June 2.

In this new role, Pulte will oversee the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) and coordinate the efforts of the United States Intelligence Community, which includes various agencies responsible for national security and intelligence gathering. The position is crucial for informing policymakers and the president on matters of national security.

Pultes appointment follows a series of leadership changes within the ODNI, aimed at aligning intelligence operations with the new administrations priorities. His background in finance and housing is expected to bring a new perspective to intelligence matters, although critics may question his qualifications for a role that traditionally requires extensive experience in national security and intelligence. The acting director position will remain in place until a permanent director is nominated and confirmed by the Senate.
