Two Indian Peacekeepers to Receive Posthumous Honors on International Peacekeepers Day
Nearly 180 Indian peacekeepers have lost their lives while serving in United Nations peacekeeping missions, marking the highest fatality rate among all troop-contributing countries.
India has a long history of participation in UN peacekeeping efforts, beginning with its first deployment to the UN operations in the Congo in 1960. Since then, the country has contributed thousands of personnel to various missions across the globe, including regions such as Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
The Indian Armed Forces are renowned for their commitment and professionalism in peacekeeping operations, often taking on challenging roles in conflict zones. The sacrifices made by these peacekeepers underscore India’s dedication to international peace and security, reinforcing its status as one of the largest contributors to UN missions.
India continues to advocate for reforms in UN peacekeeping efforts to enhance the effectiveness and safety of missions, aiming to provide better support for peacekeepers on the ground.
