UPI Transactions Reach Rs 76 Crores Per Day, FASTag Usage Declines

In July 2023, the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) processed a total of 2,366 crore transactions, indicating substantial growth compared to the same month last year. The total value of these UPI transactions reached approximately Rs 29.88 lakh crore, highlighting the increasing adoption of digital payment methods among consumers.

Conversely, transactions conducted through the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) FASTag system fell by 6% year-on-year, reflecting a potential shift in travel patterns or payment preferences. Additionally, the value of NETC FASTag transactions also experienced a decline compared to the previous month.

On average, UPI facilitated around 76.3 crore transactions per day in July, demonstrating its role as a crucial component of Indias digital economy. The growth in UPI usage is indicative of a broader trend toward digital financial solutions in the country, driven by initiatives aimed at promoting cashless transactions and improving financial inclusion.
