“VB-G RAM G Act Set to Take Effect on July 1: Review Updated State-Specific Rates for Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme”
VB-G RAM G Act Set to Take Effect on July 1, 2026: Initiatives and Changes Detailed
The implementation of the VB-G RAM G Act is slated for July 1, 2026, as announced by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan. This initiative aims to ensure that no eligible rural worker is left without employment for even a single day. The Act replaces the existing Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and introduces revised state-specific wage rates for workers under the rural employment guarantee scheme.
With a budget allocation of ₹12,642 crore, the scheme is expected to significantly enhance the support provided to rural workers, particularly in Tamil Nadu, where preparations for the implementation have commenced. A similar rollout is also anticipated in West Bengal, with the RAM-G scheme officially debuting to revive rural employment.
The new VB-G RAM G Act includes several key changes from its predecessor, MGNREGA. Notably, enhanced wage structures and an expedited process for the release of payments are among the changes that aim to attract and retain the workforce in rural areas.
For residents in implementing states, updated wage rates will be available, reflecting regional economic conditions. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts by various state governments to address rural unemployment and improve living conditions through guaranteed employment opportunities.
As the launch date approaches, state governments will be providing additional guidance and resources to ensure a smooth transition to the new system, focusing on maximizing benefits for rural communities.
