VB-GRAM G Workers to Receive Minimum Wage of ₹300 Per Day as per Central Notification
In a recent development, Haryana has recorded the highest wage rate under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), with daily wages set at ₹409. This increase comes as part of a broader initiative where 21 states and union territories that previously had lower wage rates have implemented significant hikes to align with the new floor rate established by the VB-GRAM (Vishesh Bikas Gramin Rozgar Abhiyan).
While many northern states are making strides to elevate their wage standards, southern states—typically characterized by higher prevailing wages—are experiencing more modest increases in comparison. The wage adjustments aim to provide better support for rural workers amid rising living costs and are part of ongoing efforts to ensure fair compensation under MGNREGA.
The MGNREGA scheme, which guarantees 100 days of wage employment per year to every rural household, has undergone various amendments to address the changing economic landscape and the needs of workers. The recent adjustments illustrate the ongoing commitment to improving livelihood opportunities in rural areas across India.
