Voters List in Nine States and Three UTs Undergoing SIR Phase II Reduced by 10.2%
In recent data released from the Election Commission of India, Uttar Pradesh has reported the highest net decrease in voter registrations, with a staggering reduction of approximately 2.04 crore (20.4 million) voters. In contrast, Lakshadweep has experienced the smallest net deletion, with only 181 voters removed from the electoral rolls.
The significant decline in Uttar Pradeshs voter registrations can be attributed to various factors, including administrative updates, eligibility checks, and residential changes of the population. The state, which has the largest electorate in India, often sees substantial fluctuations in voter numbers due to its vast demographics and ongoing administrative reforms.
On the other hand, Lakshadweep, which consists of a smaller and more stable population, reflects a minimal change in its electoral rolls. The variations in voter deletions across regions could also indicate differing state policies on voter verification and registration processes.
As the nation prepares for upcoming elections, the discrepancies in voter registration across states may prompt discussions about electoral engagement and outreach efforts aimed at ensuring comprehensive participation in the democratic process.
