West Bengal Government Introduces Requirement for Vande Mataram to be Sung in All State-run Schools During Morning Assembly

The notification has successfully upheld an order issued by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in November 2025, which requires all government-run and government-aided schools in the state of West Bengal to include the State Song, “Banglar Mati, Banglar Jol,” in their morning assembly routines.

This mandate aims to foster a sense of regional identity and cultural pride among students, as the song reflects the states heritage and values. The initiative is part of broader efforts by the TMC government to enhance the cultural education of students within the state.

In addition to promoting the State Song, the government has implemented various educational reforms and programs in recent years to support the overall development of schools in West Bengal. These include efforts to improve infrastructure, teacher training programs, and enhanced curricular activities that emphasize local culture and history. The decision to include the State Song in school assemblies is part of a concerted strategy to integrate these cultural elements into the educational system.
