Women’s Collective Issues Warning to Parties to Nominate 33% Female Candidates for Assembly Elections or Risk NOTA Option
Thulya Prathinidhya Prasthanam, a womens collective in Kerala, has presented five key demands focused on promoting gender-balanced politics as the state approaches upcoming Assembly elections. The organization is advocating for increased representation and participation of women in the political sphere, emphasizing the need for policies that support gender equality in legislative processes.
In recent years, Kerala has made strides toward womens empowerment, including initiatives aimed at increasing female political representation. However, Thulya Prathinidhya Prasthanam argues that more needs to be done to ensure a balanced approach in governance. Their demands include the allocation of at least 50% of candidate seats to women, implementation of policies that encourage female participation in political decision-making, and the establishment of a dedicated womens development fund at the state level.
The call for these measures comes at a critical time, as political parties gear up for the Assembly elections, scheduled to be held in early 2024. Advocates for gender-balanced politics argue that increasing womens voices in legislature not only promotes equity but also leads to more comprehensive governance that reflects the diverse needs of the population. As the electoral landscape evolves, the response of political parties to these demands may significantly influence the representation of women in Keralas political framework.
