Newborn Baby Discovered in Ammathottil, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala

A newborn boy was placed in an electronic cradle established by the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare, designed to provide a safe haven for abandoned infants. This initiative aims to protect vulnerable children and ensure their well-being by allowing parents in distress to safely surrender their newborns without fear of legal repercussions.

The electronic cradle, also known as a “baby hatch,” is equipped with sensors that notify authorities when a child is placed inside, ensuring prompt medical attention and care. The Kerala State Council for Child Welfare has implemented this system to address the issue of infant abandonment, as well as to promote child welfare and safety in the community.

Abandoned infants are typically provided with immediate medical care and subsequently placed in foster or adoptive homes through child welfare services. The Kerala initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the protection of childrens rights and address the challenges faced by unwed mothers or families unable to care for their newborns.
