Indias Crude Inventory Reaches Nearly One-Year High Amid Increased Oil Imports
As of the end of June 2023, Indias crude oil inventory reached approximately 104 million barrels, according to estimates from Kpler, a global data and analytics firm. This figure reflects a notable increase from 90.5 million barrels recorded at the end of April 2023.
The rise in inventory levels occurs amid heightened geopolitical tensions that have resulted in the temporary closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passageway through which nearly 40% of Indias crude oil imports are transported. In response to these supply chain disruptions, Indian refiners are actively seeking alternative sources of crude oil from global markets to mitigate the impact of the conflict on their operations.
India, which is one of the worlds largest oil importers, has been seeking to enhance its energy security by diversifying its import sources. This includes strengthening ties with other oil-producing nations and pursuing strategic partnerships to ensure a stable supply of crude oil in light of ongoing geopolitical uncertainties.
