Malkangiri District in Odisha Reports 27,653 Deletions, Highest in the State
In Ganjam district, which is known for sending a significant number of migrant laborers both domestically and internationally, a total of 207,626 voters have been removed from the electoral rolls. This represents the highest number of voter deletions in the state. Following closely is Cuttack district, with 155,164 voters deleted from the lists.
The deletions of voters can occur for various reasons, including changes in residency, voter inactivity, or discrepancies in the voter registration process. As a district with a high rate of migration, Ganjam’s situation may reflect the impact of labor migration on local electoral participation. Authorities have indicated that efforts to update the electoral rolls are ongoing, aiming to ensure accurate representation in upcoming elections. Voter education and outreach programs may play a critical role in reintegrating and registering migrant populations in their home districts.
