ISS Crew Advances Spacewalk Preparations and Tests AI and Virtual Reality Tools

NASA Astronaut Anil Menon Prepares for Upcoming Spacewalk to Repair ISS Antenna

NASA astronaut Anil Menon, of Indian origin, is set to conduct a spacewalk on August 18, aimed at fixing an antenna on the International Space Station (ISS). The spacewalk is part of a series of tasks that also includes testing artificial intelligence and virtual reality tools. Menon will be working outside the ISS for approximately 6.5 hours, collaborating with fellow astronaut and crew member Josh Cassada.

The current ISS crew has been actively involved in essential preparations for this spacewalk, which is a vital component of the ongoing maintenance and upgrading of the station. In addition to Menons mission, the crew has been reviewing robotics operations and conducting scientific research aboard the station.

This marks another significant milestone for Menon, who made his first journey to space earlier this year. He was selected for the NASA astronaut program in 2020 and has a background in both military and civilian aviation. Menons upcoming task highlights the increasing significance of international cooperation in space exploration, as astronauts from various countries work together onboard the ISS.

The spacewalk and the preparations surrounding it represent a critical aspect of maintaining the ISSs functionality, allowing researchers to conduct experiments that can benefit life on Earth and beyond.
