Aja Wilson and Kelsey Plum to Miss FIBA Womens World Cup
A’ja Wilson and Kelsey Plum, both key players on the USA Women’s Basketball team, will be unable to participate in the upcoming FIBA Women’s World Cup due to health-related issues, as confirmed by USA Basketball on Monday. Their absence marks a significant change for the team, which is currently preparing for the international tournament set to take place later this month.
In response to their withdrawal, USA Basketball has selected Washington Mystics teammates Kiki Iriafen and Sonia Citron to fill the roles left vacant by Wilson and Plum. Both Iriafen and Citron have demonstrated strong performances in the WNBA and are expected to contribute significantly to the teams efforts in the tournament.
The FIBA Women’s World Cup is an important event for womens basketball, showcasing top national teams from around the globe. The tournament will provide an opportunity for newer players to gain experience on an international stage and for the USA team to compete for the title.
