Akal Takht Chief Criticizes Punjab Governments Anti-Sacrilege Law on Operation Bluestar Anniversary

During a recent gathering of Sikh devotees, members of the radical Sikh group Dal Khalsa, along with hardliners associated with Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) and its leader Simranjit Singh Mann, expressed their support for the Khalistan movement by raising slogans advocating for the creation of a separate Sikh state.

The event took place in a backdrop of ongoing discussions within some factions of the Sikh community regarding the demand for Khalistan, a proposed independent state for Sikhs in India. While the movement has a history of contentious debates and has been linked to various incidents of violence in the past, its proponents argue that it is rooted in the historic grievances of the Sikh community.

Authorities have expressed concerns over such gatherings, particularly as regional tensions can escalate. The Sikh diaspora worldwide continues to hold diverse views on the Khalistan issue, with significant voices advocating for unity and peaceful coexistence within the Indian state. Meanwhile, organizers of the event defended their right to express their political views as part of the democratic process.
