On [Insert Date], Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the new Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) portal, known as FCRA 2.0, alongside the electronic Overseas Citizen of India (e-OCI) card at a ceremony in New Delhi.
The revamped FCRA portal aims to streamline the process for Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and entities receiving foreign contributions. The new system is designed to enhance transparency and compliance with regulations governing foreign funds. The portals features include user-friendly interfaces and automated processes intended to facilitate easier application and management of foreign contributions.
Additionally, the e-OCI card was introduced, aimed at providing more efficient access and services to Overseas Citizens of India. The digital card enables holders to avail themselves of services more swiftly and reduces the need for physical documentation.
These initiatives are part of the governments ongoing efforts to strengthen regulatory frameworks and improve public access to critical services. The changes reflect the Indian governments commitment to enhancing accountability in the financial practices of NGOs operating in India.
Several stakeholders, including representatives from civil society organizations and policy experts, have expressed concerns regarding regulation amendments impacting NGO operations and foreign contributions. The governments response has included the assertion that these measures are essential for safeguarding national interests.
Both the FCRA portal and the e-OCI card are expected to be fully operational in the coming weeks, allowing users to register and submit applications digitally.
