Black Panther to Make Return to Vizag Zoo After 40 Years; Official Release Scheduled for April 21
A female black panther currently residing at the Assam State Zoo in Guwahati is set to be relocated to an enclosure at the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park in Visakhapatnam. The transfer is scheduled for April 21.
This move is part of a broader initiative to enhance wildlife conservation efforts and improve genetic diversity among captive animal populations. The black panther, known for its distinctive dark coat and rarity in the wild, has been an attraction at the Assam zoo and will now contribute to the educational and conservation programs at the Visakhapatnam zoo.
The Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, which houses a variety of species, is committed to fostering a sustainable environment for wildlife and aims to provide an enriched habitat for the incoming panther. The relocation process will ensure that the animals health and well-being are closely monitored during the transition.
