CBSE Schools in Nagaland Raise Concerns Over Viability of Three-Language Policy

Principals from 19 schools have formally requested the Education Minister to establish a flexible educational framework tailored to the diverse needs of their region. This area is home to more than 17 major recognized tribes, each possessing unique languages and oral traditions that are integral to their cultural heritage.

The principals highlighted that a standardized approach may not effectively accommodate the varying linguistic and cultural differences among the tribes. They believe that a flexible framework would allow for the incorporation of local languages and cultural practices into the curriculum, fostering a more inclusive educational environment.

This request comes amid ongoing discussions about the importance of preserving indigenous languages and cultures within the educational system. Research underscores the benefits of multilingual education, which can improve academic outcomes for students from diverse backgrounds. The principals initiative aims to create a more equitable learning experience that respects and integrates the rich cultural tapestry of the region.
