Centre Clarifies Installation of Pre-Paid Power Meters Not Mandatory in Lok Sabha

During the Question Hour, Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar addressed concerns regarding the governments stance on pre-paid metering for consumers. He dismissed claims that the government was pressuring consumers to transition to pre-paid meters, emphasizing that such measures were not being implemented in the same manner as private companies do.

Minister Khattar underscored that the governments approach was focused on enhancing transparency and efficiency in electricity consumption without imposing undue pressure on consumers. He reiterated the commitment to ensuring that all stakeholders have a voice in discussions surrounding electricity billing and consumption practices.

The introduction of pre-paid meters has gained traction in various states as a means to manage electricity usage and minimize payment defaults. However, implementation strategies and public reception can vary significantly, leading to differing opinions on the best approach to meter adoption.
