Centre Partners with ISRO to Launch New Water Research Initiatives

The Department of Water Resources has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to collaborate on research initiatives across 24 significant areas. This partnership aims to enhance the management and sustainability of water resources through the application of space technology and satellite data.

The identified research areas include water quality assessment, flood and drought management, groundwater mapping, and the impact of climate change on water availability. By leveraging ISRO’s expertise in satellite imaging and remote sensing, the collaboration seeks to provide innovative solutions for water resource management challenges faced by the nation.

Such joint efforts are expected to contribute to more informed policy making and effective resource management strategies, benefiting various stakeholders, including farmers, urban planners, and environmentalists. The MoU also aligns with India’s broader goals of ensuring water security and addressing the impacts of climate variability on water systems.
