Centre Proposes Unique Governance Model for Ladakh; Leh Apex Body Leader Affirms Ongoing Demand for Statehood

Cherring Dorjay Lakruk, co-convenor of the Leh Apex Body, reaffirmed the organizations commitment to pursuing statehood for the region. He stated, “We are not abandoning our demand for Statehood. Even if at present, Statehood is not possible, we will continue with the demand.”

The Leh Apex Body, which represents various community groups in the Union Territory of Ladakh, has been vocal about its aspirations for statehood since the regions reorganization in 2019. The call for statehood has gained momentum amidst concerns over local governance, resource management, and cultural preservation.

Efforts to secure statehood have involved discussions with government officials and broader political engagement to highlight the unique identity and needs of the people in Ladakh. The Leh Apex Body continues to advocate for greater autonomy and legislative powers to ensure the regions development aligns with the interests of its residents.
