Delhi AQI Surges from 179 to 244 in One Day as GRAP 1 Restrictions Take Effect Across NCR

In a significant shift, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi surged from 179 to 244 within just one day, prompting urgent health and safety measures to be implemented across the National Capital Region (NCR). This alarming increase in pollution levels indicates that air quality has deteriorated sharply, raising concerns for residents health.

As a response to this rapid decline in air quality, the authorities have activated the first stage of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP-1). This plan entails a series of restrictions and actions aimed at curbing pollution, which includes limiting construction activities, regulating vehicular emissions, and increasing the deployment of air quality monitoring teams.

With the AQI now classified as “very poor,” health experts warn that vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing respiratory conditions, may face serious health risks. Residents are advised to minimize outdoor activities, especially during peak pollution hours, and to wear masks designed to filter particulate matter when necessary.

In light of these developments, officials are examining long-term strategies to improve air quality, especially as pollution in the region has consistently posed challenges. Citizens are encouraged to stay informed about air quality levels and adhere to any restrictions put in place to protect public health.

As the situation evolves, the government may consider further measures to combat air pollution effectively, striving for a cleaner and healthier environment for the NCRs populace.
