Dry Conditions Impact Export-Grade Vegetable Supply in Chittoor, Local Sales Increase

Due to a significant lack of rainfall since March, agricultural challenges are increasingly becoming apparent, particularly affecting crop quality and shelf life. As a result, many export buyers are withdrawing from purchasing agreements, impacting local farmers sales. Currently, brinjal is being retailed at approximately ₹80 per kilogram.

The ongoing dry spell is raising concerns over crop yields, especially in regions heavily dependent on seasonal rains for agriculture. Farmers have reported that the lack of moisture has led to a deterioration in both the quality and quantity of their produce. This situation may lead to an increase in food prices and potential shortages, as local markets react to the reduced supply. Analysts suggest that the agricultural sector may face prolonged difficulties if rain does not occur soon, further compoundig the issues faced by those reliant on the cultivation of brinjal and other crops.
