ECI Plans Upcoming Launch of Phase III of SIR, Benefiting 22 States and UTs

The Election Commission of India postponed the voter registration exercise due to the recent Assembly elections in Kerala, Assam, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal, which took place last month. The decision to delay the registration was made to ensure a smooth electoral process during the elections and to avoid any potential overlapping of activities that could complicate the voting process.

In these elections, which were conducted between March and April 2023, several key issues were addressed, including local governance, employment opportunities, and social welfare programs. The elections were significant, as they involved a total of 294 legislative assembly seats across the five states, impacting over 200 million voters. Following the completion of the elections, the Election Commission is now expected to resume the voter registration drive, which aims to enhance democratic participation and ensure that eligible citizens can exercise their right to vote in future elections.
