In the last financial year, the Kerala Forest Development Corporation (KFDC) reported earnings of Rs 11 crore from forestry crops. Additionally, the corporations ecotourism initiatives contributed significantly to its revenue, generating Rs 14.75 crore.
The KFDCs focus on forestry crops includes the cultivation and sustainable harvesting of timber, bamboo, and various non-timber forest products, which play a crucial role in supporting local economies and conserving forest resources. The ecotourism sector, meanwhile, has been growing in prominence as more visitors are drawn to Keralas rich biodiversity and scenic landscapes, offering activities such as trekking, wildlife observation, and nature tours.
These financial figures underscore the KFDCs commitment to promoting sustainable practices in forestry and tourism, contributing to both environmental conservation and economic development in the region. As ecotourism continues to expand, the KFDCs role may become increasingly significant in balancing ecological integrity with community benefits.
