Electricity Consumption Decreases in Kerala Due to Summer Rainfall Relief

Daily consumption levels have decreased by 10 million units (mu) or more compared to various days in April. Despite this reduction in demand, the storage levels in the hydropower reservoirs managed by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) have not shown significant improvement.

This decline in consumption may be attributed to a variety of factors, including seasonal variations and reduced industrial activity. Additionally, it is important to note that the energy demand typically fluctuates throughout the year, influenced by climate conditions and economic activity.

KSEBs hydel reservoirs are crucial for meeting the states electricity needs, particularly during peak consumption periods in the summer months. The lack of improvement in storage levels indicates that careful management and potential alternative energy sources may be required to ensure consistent power supply.

As of October 2023, KSEB continues to monitor the situation and may implement strategies to enhance reservoir levels, potentially focusing on renewable energy expansion and efficiency measures in response to shifting consumption patterns.
