Festival Highlighting Pastoral Cultures Scheduled to Start on May 8
A four-day festival organized by the Centre for Pastoralism in collaboration with the Pune International Centre will take place soon. The festival aims to highlight the significance of pastoral communities and their contributions to the region. Notably, it will feature an economic consultation focused on the “Revival of Desi Oon,” an initiative designed to bolster pastoral livelihoods in the Deccan region.
The consultation is expected to address various challenges faced by pastoralists, including market access, sustainability of traditional practices, and the promotion of indigenous sheep breeds known for their quality wool. Additionally, stakeholders from government, academia, and the agricultural sector will participate in discussions aimed at fostering sustainable economic practices to enhance the livelihoods of pastoral communities in the area.
This event underscores a growing recognition of the importance of preserving traditional pastoral practices and supporting the economic viability of rural livelihoods in the face of modern challenges.
